PHOTOGRAPHS OF OLD PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD The Pennsylvania Railroad began as the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington Rail Road and is now part of the Conrail and Amtrak systems. An ad in the New York Times on August 29, 2023 stated that the "new PW&B;" Railroad, running from Philadelphia to Baltimore was begun in 1834 and that the trip took three and a half hours. Railroad trains were ferried across the Susquehanna River until the mid 1860s.
Port Deposit Station Wrecked by Ice Gorge from Susquehanna River, Cecil County, Maryland. The River froze over in 1852, and the tracks were laid over the ice from January 15th to February 15, 1852. Photographer and date are not known.
